Civic Science Education (CSE), building on our previously developed DCL framework, integrates civic learning and science education by engaging students in locally and socially relevant socioscientific issues that require both scientific inquiry and civic deliberation. Through immersive, discussion-driven, and collaborative learning experiences, students examine evidence, consider multiple perspectives, evaluate trade-offs, and work together to understand and respond to complex problems that affect their communities and society. The goal is to support students in developing not only scientific knowledge and skills, but also civic competence needed to participate thoughtfully and responsibly in an increasingly complex, science- and technology-rich world.
